While the 12th house is generally the most misunderstood and confusing house of the chart to a lot of people (mostly novices) it certainly is not ominous; why on earth would you think such? And Mars and Venus are not major planets; they are what's called the "personal" or "inner" planets. The outer planets are referred to as the major planets. Simply put because they affect us for long periods of time as opposed to the inner planets which transit quickly. I'm at a loss as to why you feel such a chart would be challenging. It's rare that a chart doesn't have challenges. And Venus is a benefic (the lesser) no matter what house she resides in. Jupiter, is referred to as the greater benefic. Mars tells us where we expend our energy, and who and why we may "fight' with somebody, and when.

For years I anguished over my Jupiter and Moon in the 12th house. Just think that any challenged can be overcome. Challenges make you grow through the lessons you receive.
And as the previous person stated, the 12th house doesn't have to be ominous and Mars and Venus are personal planets.
Focus on the good things indicated by the house and the planets.

I have Jupiter in gemini in the 12th house, the 'House of self undoing" and I find it not at all ominous, but as my particular chart bleeds the 12th into the 1st house, giving me then Gemini rising, I am FAR more aware of the placement of it. I have come to be able to use it as a compliment moreso than an albatross, and somethng in which I have NO control over. So many people have generational planets in there such a s several very good friends of mine. I will say this, they often seem to have seen it all...l....and they command respect and believe me they get it. It is nearly like an unspoken language, they will NOT be denied. I have found it to my credit as well.....it has now become a complient more than anything. Your pont is VERY well taken by me and i refuse to copy and paste here, for how could I just stand by and allow it to be that one ios always alone? Rhetorically I say that as none of us are and it requires immense concentration to look at and compare charts. We need each other. Mars and venus are NOT the generational planets, and one MUST look at the aspects of the other planets as well. I have seen charts wherein a person might have been supposed to either die or fall prey to something ominous as you say, where just the opposite is happening. We are looking basically at the natal charts, well....that is ONLY where we begin from.
My fiance has both of them there, and I will tell you this, he is a GREAT debater, extremely compassionate, and does not allow that anything written be his demise. It is at odds lonely, and when development of the person ensues, it then becomes their stong if not strongest points. i am now referring to the man's venus and the woman's mars, then vice versa. My recommendation is to NOT look and scrutinize the placement of the signs....get to know the person and see the juxtipositin of this...the STRENGTHS of it. it is NOT a sounding horn of any chart to have wither that you mentioned there. I believe it makes one very much stronger!!!!
Thanks....hope that this helps.

1. Both Venus and Mars in the 12th house can mean clandestine relationships. Very secretive. Valuables are kept hidden. No one knows your actual monetary worth. Also, I have seen it in the charts of LGBT charts, or heterosexual people who seek relationships with closeted LGBT.
2. You haven't given much other info about those planets — i.e. aspects to other planets in your chart, what signs they are in, etc.
