Davey Jones is a personification of the sea; Davey Jones' locker (and thank you for not spelling it "Jones's" -- that drive me nuts when people do that) is the resting place -- if you can call it rest -- of those who die at sea.
I bet you could find more details on this if you looked for old sailors' superstitions and folklore online or at a library.

The term Davey Jones's locker goes back to the days of pirates in the Caribbean. (The real ones - not Johnny Depp.) When someone was sent to Davey Jones's Locker, that was another way of saying they walked the plank.
There are rumors that it may have been a metaphor for the gateway to hell, but I'm not certain how accurate that is.
I've read a couple of books about pirates throughout my life. This term was used from time to time.

It is the depths of the ocean. When ships sink, they go to Davey Jones' locker. My Dad was in the Navy, which is where I first heard that. I have no idea who Davey Jones is, though.

When you die at sea they throw your body over board and you are said to be visiting Davey Jones Locker. It is the bottom of the sea filled with dead sailors and wrecked ships.
