Why?

I was a server for years, had to pay a couple of times when people did it to me. I always wanted to know why they did it. Only once was it because of service, we were slammed and lunches were taking 1 hour to come out of the kitchen. I did not pay that tab.

No---It just never occurred to me.

If I am going to get arrested for something it will be for more than the price of dinner!

I have never and would never dine and dash! If I don't have money to eat at a restaurant, then I stay my butt at home.

I used to be a server and I only had 2 tables leave without paying. It really sucks! The one time my manager comped the bill for me (thank God because it was over $100), but the other time I had to pay. And I know it wasn't because of my service...I am always really friendly...I guess they were just out for a free meal.

I hope all you rude people realize that when you dine and dash it comes out of the server's pocket. The establishment doesn't pay for your dinner, but the poor sap that had to serve your cheap butt had to pay for it. When dining out remember that your server is helping many other people besides you. If the service was really that bad don't leave a tip or ask to speak to the manager.

I can not believe that so many people have actually done that. I am a server also, and thank God no one has done that to me, but I have seen many servers have to pay the check. One that I can remember was over 100 dollars. That is sick that you think it is funny. You would not take a 100 dollars worth of merchandise from a dept. store. Of course not, that would be petty larceny.

Only once, but we didn't even really dine. After excruciatingly slow service, we were brought our appetizer -- burnt nachos. They weren't the waitress's fault, and we thought we'd just send them back, but she wouldn't come back to our table. Kept doing the waitress/waiter eye-avoidance thing. After about 15 or 20 minutes (on top of the hour or more it took to get the burnt nachos), we just got up and left.

Ok so my friend Renee and I went out to this Chinese buffet when we were about 14 or so with her uncle (from out of state) who was staying with Renee and her mom to visit...we used Renee's mom's car to get there...we ate and Dan (the uncle) all of a sudden said that he didn't have enough to pay (we assumed he would pay and he WAS going to!! oh and did I mention that he was just a punk/kind of immature for his age-45ish) anywho...so I was like...ok well I am going out to the car, I am not going to stay here while you tell them you don't have enough money. So I left with Renee (he was like "stop wait!" lol) and grabbed the car keys.. Dan was still trying to finish up eating. So I got in the drivers seat and started the car...renee got in the back. (mind you i wasn't even old enough to drive.) Just as I started to back up the car i see Dan running out of the resturaunt!! My heart started to race...he opened the car door and practically sat on me...but he really pushed me over to the passenger's seat so he could drive away (and I ended up breaking part of renee's mom's car..the median thing you can put stuff in ya know) THEN we saw this little asian lady running out to our car...OMG he was about to drive away when she got really close...so he rolled down his window...(I WAS SOOO EMBARREST!!!) then she told him that when he payed, he shorted her $3..he said..."Oh, I did?? Let me go home right now and get that for you...I don't have any extra cash on me"...LOL!!! She said "That's fine" and she walked away!! Isn't that crazy!! What a goofy guy! So we just left! I felt really bad!!

We went out w/o paying, but we told the maitre d first. The food terrible, so we told him that then left to eat somewhere else.
