If it was on Instant message or email or something similiar where you can print out the threat onto hard copy (proof makes a big difference) then take that to the police department and file a Harassment claim. If you have hard copy proof then they will track down that person's ISP, and in most situations they can find out where the person lives and talk to them. It's all about having it on paper though! Also make sure to take as much information as you have, the person's possible real name, where they work, how old they are, anything that you may have learned about them. That'll help in insuring that they make contact with the correct person. Good luck!

Inform authorities, then inform the would-be perpetrator... they'll have their natural suspect "dead to rights" if any incursions against you or your family are made within the assumed timeline of the would-be attack... Unfortunately there is little that can be done unless an actual incursion is attempted. If you really fear for your safety then perhaps it's time for you to beef up security, and change you schedule by one hour or so... so your comings & goings cannot be assumed by anyone seeking to do you harm.

Contact your local police. Many departments/squads now have cyber-crime units.
