Well, the distance of the band from the centre of the Earth will increase by 10ft./2pi; about 1.6 feet. So the entire band will now be just over 1 1/2 feet above the ground, all the way round the world.

5 feet???? huh???

The earth is about 7958 miles in diameter. Pi*Diameter = Circumference = (7958)(3.1415) = 25000 miles (approximately)

Since this is the solution to how the 25000 miles comes in, work backwards. 10 ft = .0019 miles + 25000 = 25000.0019.

So find the diameter. 25000.0019/Pi = new dia

The difference between the two is .000605 miles or 3.1944 feet. However, you must divide this by 2 because the band extends the radius all the way around the earth. 3.1944/2 = 1.597 feet

the answer depends if the questio is being answered right, the way i read it the answer would be 5ft off the earth, since 10 div 2 equals five, or i could be misunderstanding the question completely, well i guess if im wrong goes to show ive been out of school too long

Oh sorry. I was thinking of a Jamaican steel band, who would all stand really high off the earth after smoking lots of Ganja!

103.14159
Diameter will increase by 3.18310155 feet
Radius will increase by 1.591550775 feet

The band will be raised 1.591550775 feet

;-D I hate math, even tricky math!
