I could write, "He said sententiously, 'blah blah blah'". But I want to replace "said sententiously" with one word. I want to know what word I could use.

The sentence is:

"My dad said sententiously, 'You'll thank me when you're older.'"

Okay thinking about it...

suggest, submit, pontificate, lecture... none of these are that great. Pontificate works but only in a negative sense. There are many many adverbs that work if you keep the "said"... insightfully, sagely, judisciously... seems to be the easiest way, sorry

There doesn't appear to be a verb to match up with sententious.

However there is aphorize or aphorise from aphorism.

"Declaimed" would be my choice--short and pithy. But "bloviated" might fit, depending on the context.
