look on the face of a penny, below the date is one letter. What do those letters mean? i have an 'S' and a 'D'. please let me know,... also which latters are the rarest? are there any other letters?

Where it was minted. D is Denver. P is Philadelphia I believe. Not sure about S. But it is the city that it was minted in.

It's not just on pennies. The S and the D are on all coins. The P is used on all coins except the penny. I don't which are the rarest, but I know D is the most common since the Denver Mint is the largest producer of coins in the world.

There are also coins with a W for those made at the newest facility in West Point. Those coins are commemerative though, not for circulation. That facility produces dimes, but not for circulation for some reason.

The indicates that the coin was printed at the Denver Mint. A P represents the Philadelphia Mint.

Never heard of S before on a coin.

I believe that is the mint where they were made. I *think* the D is for the Denver mint, but not at all sure about that. might have to do some internet research to answer some of those q's.

The letter indicates the city where the coin was minted.

1909 svbd is the rarest. I think it was the engraver's initials

just took a look on ebay. there's one 1909svbd that's at $760.00 with reserve not met

S is for San Francisco, where there was formerly a coin mint, too.
