My oscar was going nuts this morning when i got up, he was flipping out of the water, digging into the stones, swimming upside down, going ehadfirst into the pebbles in a corner and staying there, and then eventually after looking like he was on drugs for 5 mins he sat at the back of the tank on his side. I thought he was going to die, when i looked at him 2 hours later i fed him and he was normal again, except for the scratches he had given himself by throwing himself around the tank. Strange? is he sick?

It is hard to tell without seeing it, but maybe it wanted to spawn, and was moving gravel around to make a nest.
Another thing, check the water. Could someone have added something to the water when you was sleeping that was toxic? Maybe it was trying to get out of the bad water.

You don't mention how big the Oscar is or the size of the tank. Since Oscars can get up to 22", it is a good idea to have one in at least a 30 gallon tank to start with. Oscars like to thrash and move objects as well as move the gravel around. I also commonly hear people tell me of Oscars jumping out of the tank for no apparent reason. Here are some reasons they may jump though; temperature too hot, excessive vibration that bothers them and just for the fun of it. Check to make sure there is no small hole in the head right above the eyes. Hole in the head is a disease that is curable but can make fish act funny. Oscars come from South America and live in the Amazon but we raise a lot of them in captivity. It is not necessary to lower the PH. Oscars can live in a wide range of PH.

Oscars are called the "dog" of the fish world. I used to play with my oscar, he'd chase me back and forth along the tank, and when I got up in the morning he'd freak out like that because he knew we'd play for a few minutes. I also had to have a bare tank because anytime I put a rock or fake plant, he'd find a way to uproot it and cut himself on it.

My conclusion: test your water just to be safe, but more than likely Oscar just got excited and decided to swim a few laps around the tank.

I would check the water quality for sure, but if this is the only fish in the tank, he probably was startled by something. I used to have one in a 30 gallon tank that would be very skittish. I put a half dozen giant danios in the tank with him and he calmed right down. You need a real fast fish for this or they will be eaten. Also don't leave the tank in complete dark or he will eat them as well. I believe the term is dither fish. Fish that remain active in the tank actually will calm down fish like an oscar. It's the same idea as having dogs around horses.

"how he wiped sparkling the tank and each little thing"? How precisely became that? If he presented some chemical into the water that brought about the dying of the different fish it would desire to have brought about inner harm to this Oscar that's to blame for that's modern-day habit. this might in all risk be a undertaking from which the fish won't recuperate. i've got grow to be very linked to the Oscar's i've got stored and bred, that's undemanding to do. i'm hoping you could help your buddy make an entire restoration.

Sometimes this is the result of outgrowing the tank. I had 2 oscars in a 50 gallon, and when they outgrew the tank they started acting very strange. I had to give them to a friend with a very large tank. I think it sort of a stress thing when they start acting in this manner.

I had a very similar problem although in my case, all of the fish in the tank started jumping around (guppies, plecostomi, fighters, neons etc.) all swimming eratically, and eventually lying on their sides.
Turns out the heater element had shorted and they were receiving mains electricity.

its something they perform in nature as well this is completely normal. you can expect your oscar to tear up the tank sometimes, our oscars even broke the heating element, they also lie still on there sides when their is live bait present!

Your Oscar may have Ich look to see if it has small white looking crystals on it.
