cheering is a sport that requires extensive physical stamina and in most cases, gymnastics are a basic requirement to make the squad. If you feel that you lack in this area, you can enroll in a gymnastics class that emphasizes cheerleading moves rather than gymnastic competition moves (balance beam, rings, pommel horse etc.)

Talk to your local coach and ask her/him what they are looking for in their squad. It takes a lot of time and dedication to join a cheerleading team.

Make sure your grades are good, because cheerleaders often practice 2 hours a day, 5 days a week. Being a cheerleader takes commitment and teamwork, be sure that you are willing to give both.

It really depends on your school, so you should ask the coach. However, the more gymnastics you know, the easier it'll be to make the team. All cheerleading teams want people who know gymnastics. Some will require certain gymnastics skills to make the team. I would suggest that you take a gymnastics class to help you out. Many gymnastics places have a class for cheerleaders or at least a plain tumbling class.
