undefined

2006-08-31 16:17:17 · answer #1 · answered by the_greatone 2 · 1 0

It's undefined. The number that 5/0 represents would be the number that you multiply by 0 to get 5. But there's no number that you could multiply by 0 to get 5, or any other non-zero answer for that matter. There's no answer to it at all.

Since 5 divided by a really really small number comes out to a huge number, and as the small number gets ever smaller the answer gets ever bigger, it's only natural to think of 5/0 in terms of infinity, but truth be told infinity's really not a number in of itself but rather a concept.
