This guy thinks that I'm hitting on him?

First of all, I'm not. I was talking to one of our mutual friends, and he told me that he was telling everyone that I wanted to sleep with him. How can I get this guy to stop spreading rumors about me/us, when in actuallity, there is no us. I don't want to get violent, but I can't think of anything else to do. If my boyfriend was here with me, he would take care of it, but I don't know what to do. Thanks.
