We have a home built in 1968. Sometimes certain lights just don't work or they go on and then off or on and then dimmmer and then bright again. Sometimes they do work.

Seriously, I don't know about your house, but at one time aluminum was used for wiring. The problem with aluminum is that it forms an oxide coating when exposed to air that is an insulator. Eventually the aluminum oxide can lead to an open circuit or worse, an electrical fire.

Are you sure you can generalize to all old houses based on your house? It may be that the electrician just didn't tighten a screw well on one of your wall switches. I'd have it checked out if I were you.

you might need an electrican you might have old breakers they will change all you stuff to a bigger amp box . it is alot of money to get done mine was done recently
