I have had IBS with constipation for years and last year my physician put me on the medication Zelnorm and advised me to take two stool softeners a day and what a difference. And I am only 39 so it isn't an age thing either. Try reducing alot of the dairy products in your diet and this will help also. Plus, sugarfree foods and/or drinks are very irritating for IBS, as well as certain foods, such as brocolli, cauliflower, potatoes, onions. I now use Vanilla Soy Milk in my cereal and as a substitute for milk and they even have soy ice cream now that believe it or not is really good. I got my 10 year old niece to try it and she loved it. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Stress and diet need to be changed. You can take medication from your Doctor and then stop eating meat and iceburg lettuce. When you get it under control try to remain stress free which in these times are hard but I can say that many people have had no more problems on a vegetarian diet.

High fiber diets are usually called for with IBS. There are medications that can help. Zelnorm works wonderfully for many people. But you really need to talk to your Doctor about this.

I actually have it as well. Fiber, fiber, fiber, and then for good measure fiber. You need fruit and veggies, and a lot of them. If that's not enough take FiberCon or its generics. If that's still not enough, get a prescription. Fiber will keep you regular, not too backed up or too loose.

Hypnosis. There are tapes you can buy. My Mom suffered with IBS for a long time, tried the tapes, and they helped her. They are guided meditations to help you relax.

It takes a lot of time, but you're going to have to isolate the foods that do it to you.
