I heard that Vista will need a little more power than XP from the CPU. I'm getting ready to purchase an AMD Athlon X2 4600 with 2GB Mushkin RAM and 250 GB Hard Drive. I plan on doing some video editing (think "Star Wars Kid" on EbaumsWorld.com), I also plan on running a few small applications at a time. Do you think my system will be able to handle stuff like this?

Yes, but depending on your video card you may not be able to have the full video aero interface.

But yes, that should run vista no problem.

yea, that would be enough. I am getting a computer with similar specs soon. Vista's "ultimate" equivalent to XP's "Professional". You need 1 gb memory to run vista ultimate (minimum) and you SHOULD have 2 gb to run smoothly.. Your computer will be fine. You have a very powerful computer.
I forgot. To get the full of effects of Windows Vista, (aero, glass) you need a vid card that supports it.. Im pretty sure you need to get the graphics card from either ATI or nvidia. Just get a card that says "vista ready"

Your computer sound great and will run Vista with no problem. But if your into video editing youll need a 2nd hard drive. So you can move the windows paging file to it. It will take the stress off of yours. A small hard drive will do say as small as 5GB.

The system you describe will most certainly enable you ease of work with Vista. That said you will need propper and most up to date drivers so i would leave the actual installation of the machine to the proffessionals. Vista also enables you to upgrade your computer (memory requirements) via supported USB devices. I see however that you do not list graphical acceleration (
Vista is so nice and shiny that it requires 'moderate' GPU so i would go for the most commonly sold and possitively reviewed and supported ATI/AMD accelerator to fit in)

For me the problems with Vista instalations were motherboard drivers (e.g. SATA controlers and drivers for these) (least problems will be to instal on generic RAID and use SATA for the rest).

the specs that you said should be fine. make sure you have a video card that is no less than 128 and it will display aero just fine. 256mb will be better. i have the beta 2 of windows vista using intel 3ghz ht (single core), 1gb ram, 128 video, and 20gb of hdd. i really dont have any problems with performance, but it would be the minimum i would go. plus make sure that you have a dvd drive to install it. it also took around 8gb just install vista

The computer you described above will be great for vista...The main change to vista requirments from xp is the video card..Those need to be 128mgs or higher

Most newer PC's will handle the Vista software, including yours. It sounds like you want the premium edition. Here is a link with the minimum specs that you need to have to run it.

Absolutely! Make sure that you have plenty of case cooling fans! Get an aftermarket CPU fan also, a Zalman copper heatsink and some Arctic Silver thermal grease will also help you to keep your cool.

Definately, Vista wont need much more than what already is needed for XP, but I guess you can't go wrong with planning ahead.

yes it can but it might not be able to use aero unless you have a good graphics card also you will want a fast prosessor (dont no how to spell it) not just a dual core pros.... whatever
