I think it is totally up to you. I am going to find out in about 3 weeks what the sex is and I am totally excited. But I want to know so that anything that I get for the baby is either boy or girl. I have had a hard time trying to find nursery stuff that can be for either so that is one reason I want to find out. Not only that but I don't like surprises of this kind even though this baby was one. So, it is completely your call. Don't let anyone make the decision for you.

I did. Here are the pros and cons:
Reasons to find out:
You only have to agree on one name
You can buy sex-specific clothes
You can decorate the nursery
You can better prepare for events after baby's birth, such as scheduling a bris (a Jewish circumcision ritual)
You may feel more connected to your baby
It may make the baby seem more real
It helps assure you that everything is okay
Reasons to wait:
The surprise can be exciting
The last few weeks of pregnancy may be more bearable not knowing
You could have fantasies about a baby of either sex
It's the way people have been doing it for centuries
It might annoy your relatives!

I think it is a very individual decision. I can understand both sides of the argument.
My husband and I decided to wait and find out when the baby was born. It made the moment that much more special not only seeing the baby for the first time, but finding out what sex it was. We had a beautiful baby girl.

It doesn't matter really :)
I am going to find out my baby's sex (when i am preg) before its born. That's only because I want to be able to start buying things for it and be able to choose stuff because i know its a boy or girl. I would rather buy and get given stuff that goes with the sex of my child.
I know there is still like a 1% chance that the baby could turn out to be a diff sex than the doc said but yeah, thats just me.

Surprises are nice, but from a 1st time mom (my baby girl is 13 1/2 months old), it's better if you know what you're having!! It's so much nicer to go all out, pink or blue, if you know. Boy/Girl clothes is so much cuter than unisex clothes. And if you can stock up on clothes, shoes, bedding, and other accessories before the baby is born, you have that much less to worry about! I had 9 ultrasounds, but the docs couldn't tell if the baby was a boy or girl........ So her sex was a surprise........ So trust me- it's better to know!

Is this your first baby? The reason I ask is that if you've had a baby before, you know that you really get to know your little passenger before it's born. You know what music makes it move. You see it react to the barking of the household dogs or meowing of the cats. You know its favorite waking and sleeping times and how it reacts to the cool air when you get out of a warm bath. You see it respond to your voice when you're speaking or singing.
When the child's born, the daddy's meeting it for the first time, but you already have an intimate connection.
Why should your knowing this child stop short of knowing if it's a boy or a girl? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to call him or her by name when he or she is still in your belly?
And wouldn't it rankle you just a little bit for the doctor or the ultrasound technician to know something about your child that you don't? It's your baby and you're entitled!!!

a surprise is always nice but know ahead of time sometimes helps you prepare. (pink or blue everything)
If you aren't planning on finding out have a friend at hand with a credit card ready to buy pink or blue everything. I had a boy and a girl and waited to find out so i dressed them in green and yellow and with the boy (he has amazingly long thick eyelashes) I got OH "SHE'S beautiful" and with my daughter, i got such a handsome boy! (because babies don't have defining sex features) it wasn't a big deal but it's awkward b/c I didn't know if it was rude to correct them or not? a neighbor sent a gift basket with a "it's a boy" and was embarassed when she found out.
I liked being surprised though, and you can tell your kids in later years that you knew if they were a boy OR a girl you would love them endlessly which is why you didn't find out.
Good luck and congratulations!

It is just up to the couple. We found out with our children so that we could be prepared and buy things in advance. We didn't have a lot of $ at the time, so we would buy things here and there. I even bought some stuff that wouldn't fit until the baby was 6-8 months old. So, for us knowing was the way to go so that we could be more prepared!

It depends a lot on your situation. With my 1st we did not find out. With my 2ed we did with this 3rd we did. The 1st we did not because we wanted a surprise! and we did not care about pink or blue clothes we bought several neutral things greens white tan yellow stuff after he was 3 months we got gender clothes, babies mostly wear white tees and sleepers. Anyhow our 2ed we had less money we already had a 2 year old it seemed important to PLAN and to buy ahead not just 4 the 1st few months so we felt we wanted to know what to get for the 1st 6 months or more and have it bought before she was born. This the 3rd also we felt the need to plan ahead. If you have the money and don't need to really plan things out I would say wait get stuff for either maybe one special boy and one special girl newborn outfit 4 going home return whatever you don't need.

I like to know because you can buy all the things that you need for the baby before he/she is born but you don't get to be surprised about what the sex of the baby is!
