I've been turned off by reviews of Rogue mandolins that you see for $50. The Baja starter pack sounds interesting, but are there others that are affordable with good action and sound?

I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions, but I wanted to validate your inclination not to buy the $50 ones. I bought one like that off of E-Bay and, while it's been fine for learning, it goes out of tune almost IMMEDIATELY after re-tuning. You'd probably be better off to buy something that will still be satisfactory to you as you learn to play better. I kinda wish I had.
