I am not an American, but I think you should have the Pledge of Allegiance.
It creates in its small way a sense of belonging and cultural identity for every one, especially during the formative years of childhood.
A small amount of cultural homogeneity never hurt.
Americans should not have a problem with recognizing your roots.
As an Atheist, I still recognize that America was founded on Christian beliefs, so "one nation under God" does not offend me, as only a Christian state would ever truely tolerate my beliefs (or lack thereof)
coragryph- chill.
the Constitution has been ammended many times. It is the greatest document in the history of the world and it still needs tweaking now and then.

I agree with lowrider. It definitely should be taught in schools.
Any who have an affront to it, can stand at attention and remain
quiet while those who wish to pledge their flag do so. I love
the American flag and I'm proud to fly mine. It is a symbol of
America and it should never have been removed from our
schools. Our founding fathers would turn over in their graves
if they knew what is happening in this manner.

Pledging allegiance to our flag is a demonstration of loyalty to our country. Children don't just "get" that loyalty; it needs to be taught. Even those who are from other countries who have not established ties to the American culture can benefit from learning not just our pledge, but what America is all about.
However, because of the religious freedom our Constitution affords its citizens, if one's religion forbids saying the Pledge of Allegiance, I believe they are exempt.
Otherwise, why wouldn't you want to express loyalty to your country?

Pledge of Allegiance is a pledge to be loyal to this country, this government, the same government that runs and supports (pays for) these schools. We should be saying it everywhere!! If you (not necessarilly you personally) don't agree with it then LEAVE!!! If you are not for us, then you are against us!! Go find a country whose pledge you can agree with and move there, support them and be happy. As for me:
I'm proud to be an AMERICAN, where at least I know I'm FREE
And I won't forget the men who died and gave that right to me
And I'll gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
GOD BLESS THE USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. Another cheesy ****** coming out firmly in support for the Pledge and the flag, all in the same day! How utterly banal. Why don't you break the mold of conformity and grow an original thought - you cheapen "patriotism.".
sic em coryograph.

Of course it should be said... it is an American tradition ... but no one should be required or forced to pledge an allegiance to anyone or anything.... this is a free country..... the pledge should be taught to students and they should be given the opportunity to show their patriotism daily.

I support the Pledge of Allegiance.
All students must repeat the pledge!
Reason 1) Those who don't show their true colors, get them out
Reason 2) Why wouldn't you? You live here and take the fruit, you must then say the pledge.

If people want to gather voluntarily and say it before class, that's fine.
But the Constitution prohibits compelled speech, and it prohibits compelled loyalty oaths, especially ones that include religious affirmations.
Then again, most of the people above and most of our current leaders have repeatedly shown that the Constitution doesn't matter. So, since they've already betrayed everything else that this country stands for, what's one more violation.
