At 7 months she's probably still very oral. Get her things that can go in her mouth. Something you might think of is starting a holiday tradtion such as a special "Baby's First Christmas" ornament... adding a special ornament each Christmas so that when she's finally ready to start a home of her own.. she'll have her own special box of ornaments for her own first Christmas tree. I suggest a special box that will last to her adulthood & notes on why each ornament was selected.

I wouldn't spend too much money on her this time only because she wont no any better. Even if she went to the store with you to buy the Christmas gifts, she wouldn't remember them on Christmas morning. My son will be 6 months this Christmas, so I do understand. What they really like is to open presents more than anything. Get her toys that light up or make sounds and things that look funny when wrapped.

Seven months. . .

They will like toys that are just beginning to have "interaction" with them (lights, talking, moving, etc).

My daughter's aunt and uncle got her a "Little Touch Leap Pad", which is for infants. You can buy stories for it, and with touches can make it talk, play games within the story, and either have someone read to them, or if you have a beginner reader, they can start to learn with it. It still is one of her favorite toys, and she is a year old.

We tried to get some toys that are somewhat educational. Look around. You will find a lot of things that are really great, and they love to use.

Go with the "old fashioned, low-tech" stuff: blocks made of vinyl or fabric; a hide and seek box--usually a cloth "box" containing hidden treasures like a soft rattle, shapes, etc. Try discovery toys or Fisher Price for infants.

Your little one will also LOVE playing with the paper and the boxes; just make sure nothing goes in her mouth!
