Would anyone pay taxes if they weren't looking down the barrel of a gun? It is not necessarily fear or intimidation, per se; most people would rather submit than go through the futile hassle of resisting. We're just lazy and we need someone to blame for bad roads.
But, I suppose that it is a fair statement that the supremacy of the state and fear of punishment is the mechanism by which governments govern (ultimately).

i think that that is what the media wants us to believe. the media takes it out of context and portrays information that they twist around and spread to society. there are societies that are less bad compared to others it's true, and there are cults that still believe in sacrifice. i don't think that all govenments govern through fear and intimidation, i think that is the reflection of the media... they personalize everything, and make it appear more corrupt then it really is by focusing on all the hard times, and not the good.

What a bunch of paranoid crapola. I am not afraid of the government here. If you are move to a nice communist country or somewhere with a nice dictatorship. Maybe some great third world cess pool would be better. Then you can be afraid lol.

i think it's more than fair. another way to describe it would be to say that all governments govern through the use of force, or potential use of force. this would be pretty hard to argue against, but i'm sure plenty of people will try, because the other way that governments control people is by convincing them that they are not being controlled.

Well partner, were all in the herd. And the herd has to be tended to. Wouldn't want one to stray too far off now.

Lenin stated it clear, "State is the tool of suppression and oppression". He did not distinguished what kind of state. He meant all states.
