I would buy the Avent bottles. You can use the nipples now then switch to their sippy nipple and they have wings so that she can grab on to it. Here is a picture of what I'm talking about.

The age is dependant on the child. If you believe that your daughter will be willing and able to learn a new skill, then by all means, try out a sippy cup. If she doesn't take right away, you can always put the sippy cups up until she IS ready.
For starting out, I would suggest the two handled variety with the soft "spout". Anymore, the majority of sippy cups have filters that make the cup almost spill proof. I believe my daughter had the Playtex version of this kind of cup.

Well, an occupational therapist told me that sippy cups are just like bottles, so they don't really teach a baby how to drink from a cup. She said you should really use a cup. My daughter is 14 months and still isn't coordinated to drink from a cup on her own. She does very well with my help though. I did both with my daughter, I used a cup (clear plastic works best so you can see how much they are getting) but I held it for her, and I also gave her sippy cups. I referred to them as cups not bottles to help her make the transition when she's ready. I've bought several sippy cups, but I liked the Nuby the best.

We bought our daughter sippy cups starting around 6 months. Gerber has some that are beginner sippy cups - the spouts are soft and work like a bottle nipple, but they are not the same consistancy of a bottle nipple. And you can attach a gadget that keeps them from leaking. She uses them still.

They recommend I think at 6 months to start breaking the habit of the bottle. Also on the package of the sippy cup it says certain ages. Any brand you prefer, cheap is always good. lol

Sounds good, my daughter was using sippy cups and completely off bottles by 9 months. Platex ones are nice, it's been awhile since I've bought some, so just check out all the brands and which one you think might work out best with your daughter.

It's easier for babies to learn with the sippies that have a soft training spout, kinda like a nipple. Spill proof cups are the best to have. Handles are also a nice feature to have. You can introduce it after she begins to eat table food, but I wouldn't recommend it until you're almost ready to wean her.

I already give my son a sippy cup. Igive it to hem in the car to keep him busy, he can only really get a drip out every so often. He is 4 months old, It's called a nuby cup, they have to bite on it to get any liquid out so it is great it DOES NOT leak at all! and it is great for teething I put cold water in it and he chews and it feels great on his gums

I recommend the new NUBY sippy. It comes with a regular nipple and a sippy nipple. (it is actually a bottle with a sippy mouth)
My daughter is 6 months now and I started her on it this month.
good luck with your baby and congrats.
