Beginning with the original-- Samson, of the Bible. (If you haven't read his story, in the book of Judges, it is way cool.)

Then Thor, as drawn by Marvel. If they really wanted him to conform to the image of the berserker warrior, they should grow him a long beard and braid it and tuck it into his belt so his enemies couldn't grab hold of it to slit his throat in combat.

Superman had a mullet a couple years back. Not any more, of course.

Doc Samson of marvel. He has gamma strength (not as much as Hulk, but hey, I'd take it.) And he has long green hair. I'd put up with that, too.

(Hey, I'd take just more hair, period. )

Then there's Fabio. He's not in the comics, but he has a super power over women.

Oliver Queen, when he was stranded on the island, learning his archery skill prior to becoming Green Arrow, looked a lot better than Tom Hanks did with his hair and beard.

Skateman (Pacific Comics, 1983) had a pony tail.

Asterix and Obelix-- didn't one of them have long hair...?

Tarzan-- you'd expect HIM to be on the shaggy side, but he wasn't, especially. Marvel's clone of him Ka-Zar, had long hair.

I seem to recall that The Badger, who first appeared in Capital Publications, had a ponytail at some point in time.

Wolverine and Sabertooth have been known to let it grow, on occasion and for various lengths of time.

(I'm afraid Professor X will never be included in the Comic Book Hair Club for Men!)

Marvel's Beast-- okay, he's hairy ALL OVER, but you get the point. Same goes for Blackout, back in the 40's. (Blackout was also one of the very few naked super heros.) Ditto for Sasquatch of Alpha Flight.

In his original appearances, Black Lightning had a hood that made it seem as if he had a full Afro-- does that count...? It was an excellent disguise, anyhow.

Captain Britain had a ponytail for a while, I seem to recall.

Let us not forget Conan the Barbarian. Not a superhero, necessarily, but certainly a comic book hero.

Firestorm the Nuclear Man, with those long flames for hair! I hope you don't consider him as cheating. Same goes for Fire Lad of the Legion of Substitute Heros, and Ghost Rider.

The Creeper! I know, it's a wig, but people don't KNOW that...!

Hercules, at least the way he is drawn by Marvel, shows him with long hair.

A British character, Kaptain Kween, was a hairdresser, in his secret identity as Melvin Mincing, and the mortal foe of wig thieves and other antihair criminals. He appeared in Dennis Giffor Creative Comics (1976), and his arch enemy was Dan Druff.

Grow-Arm-Hair-Lad, of the Directory to a Nonexistent Universe (A parody of the Marvel Directory and DC's Who's Who) has always had MY vote as the most useless super power ever.

Orion of the New Gods has sometimes had long hair, notably when he begins to lose control of his ferocity (not a la the Hulk, but more like Luke Skywalker being tempted to the Dark Side. Indeed, since Darkseid IS orion's father, it is conceivable that the Luke/ Darth Vader relationship was borrowed from the New Gods. )

Shaman, a former member of Alpha Flight, had long hair.

There are doubtless others, some jungle- and animal-themed characters, but these are the major ones and the most interesting ones I could find on a moment's notice.

There are lots! Too many to mention!

Cheesiest: Superman used to wear a mullet in the mid 90's.

But my favorite long haired hero was Killraven from the War of the World's Comics that Marvel did in the 70's

Most martial artists I know have short hairs. You mean why does people taking up the style you're taking have long hair? Well, in Chinese martial arts, they make it into a pony tail and use it as a weapon in some of the styles. Other than that, whether it's custom or whatever it is, I have no idea.

It's all merely a matter of personal preference. I actually have short hair and guys like it. And i prefer a man with short hair over a person with long hair because long curly hair tends to make guys look also girly.
