If the European food mountain were used to feed the starving and needy then Europeans would be able to see that the prices they are forced to pay for produce in the supermarkets is hiked unrealistically high. There would be protests which would lead to civil unrest, which is, of course. very bad for the credibility of Governments.

Sadly, I think that it would never be that the mountain is fully distributed amongst the needy. If you keep the population ignorant, then you keep yourself in power.

Not only would anyone make any money out of it, but this could hit the world markets real bad.

All of a sudden the demand on the world market would fall, since some countries would be able to use the mountain to feed their people. Prices of food would drop and many people would suffer, including farmers in Europe.

Therefore there is no way European governments are going to do that. They are even, together with the US and Japan, refusing to remove protections and subsidies from these farmers because the farmers are a noisy bunch with votes and much influence. Imagine what would happen if the prices these farmers got on the world market dropped!

The only way for the food mountain to be used in that way would be for people in Europe (and the US) to stop idolising farmers and putting them on a pedestal. The agricultural industry wields far more power than what they contribute to the economy, and it is only historical sentimentality, glorifying farmers as people who sacrifice their lives to feed the country that keeps it that way.

If the food mountain is to be used to help the starving and needy, people need to realise that farmers have been having a privileged ride for many years and that food can be obtained from outside the economy, just like any other commodity. The rest of us lose jobs, find new jobs, change industry as the economy changes... to make a living; why are farmers different? Why do farmers in other countries and their children suffer, so the farmers in Europe can have a sheltered life?

It needs a change in the mindset of the people, to stop idolising farmers, then only would the power of farmers to maintain subsidies and prevent the food mountain from being used to help others wane.

If you mean food mountain, it won't be used as no one would make any money from that.
