When my daughter's iPod headphones fell apart 3 months after she bought it, she just went back to the store she purchased it from, and they gave her new ones free of charge.
Before she replaced them, she was using my oldest grandson's headphones from his CD player, which I actually picked up at the dollar store for him. Cost $1.14 (with taxes).

Check out the Apple Store online. A bit of advice, try some other headphones. The headphones that come with the iPod aren't the greatest sounding headphones. Apple actually expects you to buy better headphones. Buy a pair of Sony Studio Monitor headphones or something. You paid all that money for a great audio player, get some great headphones and enjoy the rich sound the iPod offers.

Or you could do what I did and upgrade the ear phones! I bought Sony Earbud style headphones that sounded even better than the Apple ones. I got the kind that actually fits a little bit into the ear canal so when I ride BART (subway for the SF Bay Area) the train noises get blocked out even better. When you see what you like on the Sony web site (http://www.sonystyle.com) just copy and paste the model number into Yahoo Shopping or Froogle and you'll be suprised how much cheaper you can buy them for off retail. Don't forget eBay too! Good luck!

Any headphones work with an iPod. There are lots of headphones/earbuds that are far superior to those that come with the iPod. It does not appear that the apple store sells the original earbuds by themselves, but they do sell their "In Ear" headphones, which are supposed to have better quality.
You might want to go with something thats NOT apple. Lots of people have been mugged for their iPod because people recognized the signature white earbuds.
Good LUCK!

here go to this website http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/ scroll down to the Request Service box and click "Request a replacement accessory for your iPod" then scroll to the bottom of that page enter your ipod serial number. Then follow the steps and tell them what you want to replace and what happened and I am pretty sure they will replace it for free. This is the only way to get original ipod headphones because i tried looking also and no place carries them not even the Apple store.
Hope this helps.

i personally reccomend getting sony in-ear earbuds, they sound GREAT, i didnt really find the ipod ones comfortable, but the sony ones fit really nice and sound a million times better, they're like 35 dollars i think , they come in black and white, i got black..... if you are ever worried about someone jumping you and trying to steal the ipod, get black so they dont know its an ipod you're listening to... just a suggestion
