Third person omniscient

I prefer third person, simply because I don't like reading first person. When writing in first person it's risky, because you have to make absolutely sure the character is likable. For example, Twilight. I absolutely detest Bella, so why would I want to read an entire story from her point of view? Third person is the most common way to write nowadays, but it can be tricky. The whole point of a story is to give an emotional experience, to make the reader feel like they are the main character. If you write in third person and jump around from head to head, showing the emotions of every character, then the reader won't relate as well to the main character, therefore there will be no emotional experience. It's easier to show emotions this way in first person, but you are limited in what you can show. Everything you write has to be only what the character sees. You can't write about anything that happens while the character is not there, and any information received from a second party will almost always be biased or lack detail. Your character also needs a strong voice, and everything they say will have to reflect their personality. For instance, a tiger. One character may see a tiger walking towards them and be enchanted because they love tigers, while another may have had a bad experience with cats and be terrified and run away. Same situation, but different reactions. This is also true with smaller things, like colours and smells. In my opinion third person gives you more freedom to write, and it's easier to write a story unbiased by your character.

For me it's the opposite way round. Normally I prefer writing/reading in 3rd person, but recently I've been drawn towards the 1st person style. I think it all depends on what the plot of the story is and how many characters are in it. If there are a lot of characters, I always find it easier to write in 3rd person. The same goes for if the plot is particularly complicated and/or takes place over a long period of time. I like the idea of writing in 1st person though. For me, it makes it easier to relate to the character that is narrating and I like including flashbacks etc :)

Well, if it starts with an "I", and uses a lot of them in sentences, that would be first person.

Read it and find out. I seem to remember it's a bit of both.

If the book talks using "I" or "Me," it is in first. If it uses pronouns such as "they," "he," "she," etc., then it is in third person. Extra info: Second person is "you."
