In Age of Empires 3 what is the best army to play as?

I've been playing the game for awhile, but only as the French, Britsh and Ottoman. I want to play as a new army with out building a whole ton of home cities

try using the portugese. they get a town center with every age advancement which means you can create settlers faster which is the foundation for every economy. they also have some of the best military units in the game. the only military units you have to get are culverns, cassadors, and dragoons. culverns for anti-artillery and anti-ship, cassadors for anti-infantry, and dragoons for anti-calvary

I would say try every army and see which one you like. Each one has advatages and disadvantages. Also, check the guidebook that comes with the game, I think it shows each army's advantages and disadvantages.
