60 gig should be no more than $50 before shipping. Unless it's for a laptop, then the prices can get higher.

The problem is..

60 gig is REALLY a bad purchase.

Lemme break it down for you why

We sell harddrives at my company
we don't even carry 60s anymore, however, our last price for them (6 months ago) was $89 (we don't update when we stop stocking)

However, our current asking for a 160 is $79 (+ shipping / tax)

If I could even FIND a 60.. it'd be ~50.

the 160 is 266% larger, but only 60% more

How much do you think a 300gb (500% larger) costs?

$115 + shipping/tax

the price per gigabyte of a 60gb hdd is upwards of 85cents (or about $1 when you factor in shipping)

yet, a 300gb is around 35cents a gig.

The problem is, nobody really stocks 60s anymore.

I think the smallest hdd we have in inventory is a 200gb.

I just checked with my supplier.

a 40gb drive and an 80 gb drive (from my supplier) are $1 price difference!

thirty to forty dollars.

50 to 80 cents per gig is a good deal.

many places you go to will still want to charge you a $1 per gig! this is an old price and these people need to get with the times!

(at least that's what they are in Ohio. it might be more expensive in California, everything is more expensive in California.)

you will notice there is such a thing as an "external hard drive" these are more expensive, as you don't have to take your computer apart to give it extra space, you dont even have to replace the hard drive that's in it. (all you have to do with an external drive is plug it into a USB port on your computer) if you want to replace the hard drive that's in your computer now, steer clear of external drives, because you want to be able to replace the drive thats in your computer now (external dives dont fit in your computer the way internal drives do).
internal hard drives (the regular kind of hard drives) aren't usually marked "internal hard drive" but they'll say the cache number (this is how fast the hard drive can retrieve the information stored in it, for example, a computer with a low cache number, will take more time to open a photo, or a program installed or stored on the hard drive. the higher the cache number, the faster your hard drive will run.) so if you find 2 or more hard drives, for the same price, and the same space, look at the cache numbers, and that might give you a better idea for the one you want.

brand names mean alot! if you see 2 hard drives and one is made by a company you know, like HP, or Sony, and another one is a brand you've never heard of, or made by a company you've had bad luck with before, go with the hard drive made by the better company! no hard drive is alike!

hope this all helps! if you have any other questions that i didnt answer, or if i didnt answer a question correctly, email me, and i'll try and help you out.

First off, princess is an idiot. No hard drive (that I've seen) costs $300 for 60 GB. Second, I don't think they may 60 GB hard drives. I've only seen 40 GB and 80 GB hard drives but nothing in between until now. A 74 GB hard drive runs about $160. Keep in mind that there is never such a thing as "too much memory" for HDD so if you can, go for 80 GBs or more.

lord love a duck, goddess is probably closest . . .

don't even bother with a drive that small, you can get a 200-300GB drive for $100 if you look around, 60 gigs maybe 50
