I'll agree that it depends on the generation. Some of my friends who are Muslims listen to rap, they just don't think about the lyrics much.
I hate it, but not because of jcrewcatt's revolting opinion. It isn't my religion that makes me dislike graphic sexism and superficial bragging, it's my morals. Also, I'm a songwriter and the horrible repetitiveness of modern rap (not to mention the fact that a lot of rap is about some motion, from finger-snapping to walking) revolts me.
However, if a rap song is genuinely meaningful (and there are some meaningful raps) good for the rapper!

It's not only Muslims who hate rap. I think they might be with the majority on this one.

Um...I think it depends on where the muslim grew up. I mean if they lived in somalia or irac or something liek that, then I'd doubt they would have a boombox to listen to that music on. But if they live in the US, then i thiink that muslims would be fine with it. My friends are muslim and they listen to New Age and Rap all the time.

No...there are quite a few rappers that are themselves muslims. eg. Lord Jamar, Sadat X, Freeway, Capital D, Q-Tip, Mos Def, talib Kweli and Busta Rhymes just to name a few.

Probably not the younger generations, but like many older people... yes, rap is looked down upon.

p.s. In case you didn't know. Were it not for slavery, those rappers would be Muslim themselves. Duh.
