A traitor is a citizen who acts against the interests of his/her country.
the French are not Americans, therefore they can not be traitors.
The French have more in common with America than you seem to realize.
Just because your brother does not do what you want, it doesn't make him a traitor. It makes him independent minded.
For example, France passed a law outlawing the wearing of religious head dresses.
That is a far more telling action than the low level prejudice that America has for certain Middle East cultures.
Pretend you are France for a moment. you want certain things, but the US and certain other countries are bigger with more money. What do you do?
You play smarter. You be everyone's friend, you pretend not to like America and suck up enough to third world idiots to sell them your crap.
Don't be jealous of France for being smarter. But don't ever forget that they are the political masters of Planet Earth.
Why do you think words like espionage, protocol, government, sabotage, subterfuge, discerning, duplicity, rapproachment, diligence, are all French words?
Why do you think they run the EU when they are not even the richest country in Europe?
Because they are cunning and ruthless and opportunistic.
They invented most of the modern political and military concepts and others merely ape their successes.
Bottom line, the French will always be friends of the US against the big enemies, and always a pain in the butt as competitors.

~Traitor to whom or to what. When a free and indepent nation elects to follow a rational path and not join in an illegal and unjustified invasion of another free and independent nation at the risk of economic and other reprisals by the invaders, I think the more appropriate adjectives would be "sane" or "heroic".
France has been leery of US domination since the US refused to aid the French in their revolution and since the US left them out to dry in two world wars, steeping in only when allied victory was assured and US post-war economic and political supremacy was guaranteed. There is a reason the US is not well loved around the world. Your question and your attitude is part of that reason.

Unfortunately they didn't give you a higher IQ and you forget France isn't exactly liberal. They restrict religious freedoms of expression. So they aren't exactly traitors when they follow America in restriction of liberty.

In this case France stayed out of something while we America spend billions of dollars for nothing. I'm not a big fan of France, but I am one for using your brain and making the right decisions.
