i hear no sounds on my computer. i know i should. im new to the computer world.this is my first computer.i think i need to add somthing called a sound card or somthing.my computer is a old hewlett packard. circa 1998.please tell me what to do, or what to install...if you can.please. thank you.

Yeah that computer is getting a little long in the tooth, but it should have available an empty pci slot http://www.hwupgrade.it/articoli/350/pci.jpg

Don't spend too much on a card, just a few dollars no more.. here's a link to a card that should work for you http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829117104 check at a local mom and pop computer store or buy something like this online...

Well, for one... did your computer package come with speakers? If so, are they on? If they are, click on the green START button, select CONTROL PANEL, select SOUND DEVICES, and play with the settings until you hear something. If you don't see any sound devices, that's because it's not installed on your computer and you have to install speakers. Also, if you're having more trouble, refer to your troubleshooting menu/book.
