Any ideas about what william beckett (lead singer of "the academy is...") wears around his neck? is it just a piece of string? or something else?

i saw a girl the other day with one on, but i didnt get a close look cuz i didnt want her to think i was staring at her. lol

Its a leather band choker. They are sorta for punk and alternative looks...
