I ordered to see my medical record and to the parts that I wanted to see the most. They blacked it out, are they trying to hide it from me or to anyone who orders to see my medical record? I find it quite strange. Is it normal?

anything that is a medical document that is put in by mistake , has to have one line threw it so it can be read to black it out compleatly (at least in the state of Nevada) is aginst the law. The records are your property and they have no right to hide anything no it is not normal

Hello. I work at a hospital in the medical records department. People order their records reguarly. I believe a patient has the right to see their ENTIRE medical record based on the HIPPA laws. Although if your state has stricker laws than the HIPPA laws then they will go by them. Did you see the original records or only a copy? If it was a copy, I would ask to see the originals.

It is normal. They black out those sections, because of confidentiality reasons. It is a HIPPA violation, accept in cases where they are sending your medicals records to anothe medical office per a signed release of information from the patient. They will usually do this if it is going to be handled by someone who is not the patient, or the medical professional that it has been released to.

It's not abnormal, its true about HIPAA compliant laws but there should one line struck through mistakes and then initialed by the person doing it so there is somewhat of a paper trail. But, you should be able to see you record in it's entirety if you persist. I would reference the HIPAA laws and your right to see the records. No health practitioner would risk a fine.
