Here's what I need.

- Lightweight
- Long Battery Life
- VERY simple. I don't play games or watch movies. Just for typing and internet.
- Something that won't overheat in 2 minutes. My current laptop does that too often for one's personal contentment.
- Cheaper, the better.
- Would prefer if you could PERSONALLY say you have tried it.

I would recommend a Dell Inspiron 6000. I have one of these and a B130, and the 6000 is far superior to the other.

The Apple MacBook. It's worth every penny. For the quality of the hardware and software, it's a great price. You might pay more for a Macintosh, but in the end, you'll end up spending less on a Mac than you would a PC. Don't forget, if you need Windows compatibility, Macs run Windows too. It's extremely portable and lightweight. You won't believe how small it is until you see it. It's very powerful, yet it has about a four hour battery life. Simple? You can't get more simple than a Mac. Everything is easier on a Mac. Here's a link for more info.

I've owned dell's, think pad's, and a toshiba. For best service and scability I recommend a dell latitude. It's extremely light under 4 lbs and has great options for scaling down from a base list model but you sometimes have to call to get a system with the basics rather then the 50 million upgrade options they offer.

The battery life is decent 2-3 hours when in heavy use up to 4 under light use.

The best asset is the fact in some models the cd or dvd drive is external- cable conects it. so you can leave home things you wont need when traveling or just off to the park for the day.

Good luck.

i have a gateway widescreen one. i like it its pretty lightweight and thin. the battery last about 3hours and it came with a lot of free trial programs like microsoft office and some anitvirus stuff. it gets hot if you are on it for a really long time but not too bad. i think it was around $600 or $700. dell has some pretty good deals i hear too. maybe check out best buy and see if there are some there you like. thats where mine came from. had it since april and havent had any problems. good luck

I bought a 15.4 inch Acer laptop from Circuit City last year for about $650.00. It works great for me even with games. I would highly recommend one.
