I have used this method for years, and my grandmother also used it.....20 Mule Team Laundry soap, about three bucks a box. Put the dry soap in one of the cheap ketchup bottles that you can buy at any dollar store, you may want to snip the tip off a little so the hole will be a little bigger, apply along baseboards, kitchen cabinets, around where the plumbing comes in under your sinks and vanities, leave lay for a few days until you no longer see any signs of the ants, vacuum up the excess laundry soap and dispose of it, and use the rest of the box to do laundry with, this will be about a five buck fix. And it works, the ants will carry the Borax back to their nest and it will kill them.

Diatomaceous earth will rip up their insides. Sprinkile it into any cracks around your house, and around the property line. It's got microscopic spikes that scratch through the ants joints, but isn't dangerous to people.

A little caulk applied to wherever the ants are crawling in through can also sometimes help keep them out... and reduce your AC bills.

The white part of ashes from a fire can also trouble them. It's got a very high pH, that can eat through their skin. It only works until it rains though, and can be tough for some nearby plants.

Rumor has it that the oily stuff from orange peels can also kep them out, if you care to smear that all over the place.

Boric Acid is real good for killing just about any kind of pest. It comes in a powder form and its cheap. I dont know the recipe but I have read it on the net on how to mix boric acid with sugar to make ant bait. Just do a little research on the web about boric acid and you should find what your looking for. It is a poison but for ants you dont have to spray or spread it around. After your baits are made you just set them wherever you have seen the ants. This stuff works!!!

Try the artificial sweetner "aspartime", sold under the brand name "NutraSweet". It was supposed to have originally been invented as an ant poison and works wonders, just sprinkle it around where the ants are coming in.

If you know the exact location of the ant hill, dig a large hole through it to expose the ant colony. Then, in a bucket use hot water and Mr. Clean. It will kill them instantly.
