Why does my car make a whirring sound like a battery operated motor or a child's toy car (those ones you pull backward and then release)? It does so when I accelerate even slightly.

Sounds like the transmission is low on fluid. The whirring is probably the fins in the torque converter. Other than that, it might be a timing belt too tight. I'd check the tranny fluid. Good luck.

A wiped out CV joint could make extra of a clicking noise for the time of turns to boot to any whirling which would be there. this could be extra of a bearing difficulty reckoning on the place it fairly is coming from. no count if it rather is coming from the wheels then it would desire to be the wheel bearings or maybe a brake airborne dirt and dust preserve rubbing/grinding.

It could be the wheel bearings (inside the brake disc) or you'll need to check your brakes. Be careful when you blow air on the brakes since the asbestos is harmful. Check the tension on your belts. Other things could be an exhaust leak or the radiator fan.
