Mega = 1,000,000
Kilo = 1,000
Hecto = 100
Deca = 10
Unit = 1
Centi = 1 hundredth
Milli = 1 thousandth
Micro = 1 millionth
Fpr example, millimeter = one thousandth of a meter, decameter = 10 meters, kilometer = 1000 meters.
To convert from one unit to the other you need to know what the difference is. So for example, to convert 5 kilograms into milligrams you need to know the difference between a kilogram and a milligram. As kilo is the prefix meaning 1,000 and milli is the prefix for one thousandth then the difference is a million (1000 x 1000) so 5 kilograms is the same as 5 million milligrams.
108,960 grams converted into decagrams is the same as dividing by 10 (one decagram = 10 grams). Converting it into hectograms is the same as dividing by 100 (one hectogram = 100 grams) and so on.

Mega- 108,960/(10^6)=.0896
Kilo- 108,960/(10^3)=108.96
Hecto- 108,960/(10^2)=1,089.6
Deka- 108,960/(10)=10,896
Deci- 108,960/(.1)=1,089,600
Centi- 108,960/(.01)=10,896,000
Milli- 108,960/(.001)=108,960,000
Micro- 108,960/(10^(-6))=1.0896 x 10^11

well the trick is to get them in the right order. it's kg-hg-dg-g-dg-cg-mg, each unit is 10x bigger than the other one, so there's a factor of 10 here. For example goig from kg-dg= 10x10=100, so 1kg=100dg. Mega is just 10^6 vs. grams.
