I build computers so maybe this will help.

A lot of people that play the Sims 2 do not have gaming machines. They have a cheap or outdated computer that is built for office functions and not multimedia and games. For example, many people with a laptop arent always aware how necessary it is to have efficient cooling and ability to handle this much processor and video/graphics power... the game on such a machine but will make it run very HOT and can cause heat damage in their machine. Most machines will shut off when a certain temperature is reached but laptops tend to crash. Desktop machines can run cooler but when the heat is on, even they have trouble staying cool (like the recent heatwave).

The newer ones have enormous fans on the CPU and on the video card, and often have several other fans inside the machine.

Like someone buying a volkswagon and trying to make it float like a boat. Then they say the game ruined their machine. This very common, since most people that just like to have fun with their machines are not tech-heads or geekoid. :) It's not bad, and they are not dumb, just that they don't understand how different computers can be.

Viruses and stuff? You can get viruses from bad downloads and sometimes people download hacks and cheats. Some cheats and hacks work very well and have been tested. BUT, combine a few of them and that can mean conflicts with the game engine happens. Like two hacks trying to change game code while you are playing -- if each one addresses a different part of the code, your computer might freeze up. Since they don't understand programming, people sometimes blame it on their machines or think the game is bad.

So if you have a good machine that is up to spec and don't use hacks or cheats without understanding what ELSE they CAN do... you'll be just fine. Right out of the box, the game is safe and a lot of fun!

To check to see if a computer is up to spec run the Sims test from here:

If there are red areas, that means the machine should get some tweaks. If there are a lot of red areas, it would be better to get an upgraded machine.

Enjoy your game! I love it! :)

if you buy the legitimate copy from a shop it does NOT give you a virus or damage your computer! However, if you download it from the net or something, there is a possibility that a virus can be included. I have the Sims 2, the real copy, and it has not done anything bad to my computer.

If it's a licensed copy it won't hurt your computer. Sometimes when you download things from the net, you'll have problems. Your game should run clean if you don't do any downloading. Sims 2 also requires a LOT of storage so you computer has to be up to par for it to run well too.

I've had Sims 2 for a while and it hasn't done a thing to my computer. I've never heard of it ruining anyone else's system, either.

Sims 2 takes up too much memory

My daughters play it constantly. It takes up a lot of memory and can tend to make the computer run a little slower, but other than that, we have never had any problems with it.

There is no such thing. Don't worry and enjoy your Sims 2 game.

it might configure video memory management, activex, etc, in its favor. If it does prove a problem with other programs, use "system restore" after uninstalling sims, and that should undo it nicely.
