Is there a need to adjust GDP per capita to include factors such as economic welfare and the environment?

The advantages and disadvantages of GDP per capita are also welcome

Perhaps, the environment determines the quantity of natural resources a country has to trade. A country shouldn't be held liable for a low GDP per capita when they live in a dried up location- no oil, silver, copper,etc. Economic welfare shouldn't be included because that is an effect of GDP per capita, unlike environment.
