I don't think the bible was meant to be taken literally, you know metaphor, faith, interpretation and all that. Personally I see it as a piece of literature that may or may not have basis in history. The fundamental message it brings is good (do un to others, love your neightbour etc) but I can't say it inspires me to believe in it or God.

The Bible was written down by men. From time to time, committees went through it and decided what would be included and what would be removed. This happened during the Babylonian captivity, again when Rome made Christianity the official religion, and yet again when the Protestants revised it during the reign of King James I of England. There were other times, but these were the major revisions that I know about.

Yeah, it's garbled. There are germs of truth in it, but you have to look hard. The Old Testament is a really good read. Try the Book of Ruth and the Book of Esther. Both of those are historical events.

God is always with us, especially in dark times. Faith is a very difficult concept to grasp. Christians struggle with it all the time. As for the Bible, I am pretty liberal. Jesus told a lot of parables (stories, if you will) to get a message across. Conservative Christians believe that the bible is innerant, that is, everything in it is true. I believe that God inspired people to write the bible. Therefore, the bible could be full of "stories" to get the message across. For me this includes the Old Testament as well as the New Testament. Since human beings wrote the bible, there could also be mistakes made, we are after all, only human.

probably there technically is a "god" of some sort, but way beyond human's unusually limited comprehension to properly imagine or understand. the bible was written by patriarchal types with an agenda. the main concern of that agenda was to "be in charge", and thereby control everyone and everything. much as things are today regarding "the people of the book" and the hierarchies that run their lives. ;-)

The Bible is not too hard to understand, the point of it is to have God in your life to speak to you through your reading of the word. If your heart is open, and you truly desire to hear Him, He will speak to you in the word.As for 9/11, or any major event, good or bad, these things are going to happen, and it does not mean God is not around. Expext life to be full of situations, but each one can be used to draw more hearts to Jesus.

Get Swaggart's Expositor's Study Bible from jsm.org. It's a fantastic line-by-line, precept-by-precept explaination of the King James text researched and interpreted by Greek scholars. You won't ever be in the dark again.

The bible, as literature is terrible. As a religious symbol, it's just propaganda! Either way, it sucks.
