It's a good question to ask whether the Chinese in China will
"invade" economically in the future. The Chinese are known for
their acumen in business and money. Today, China has grown
faster economically than any nation put together. In fact, USA
is now very worried about China doing so well every year that
they wanted a piece of economic action too. Within the last
10 years, every western nation has gone abroad to China to
invest in the economic success.
It looks like China will "invade" economically in the not-too-
distant future to become another big economic power.
Certainly, China will not invade or conquer others militarily, as
she has too much stake too lose.

China's rise in economic and military power is on the list of top priorities at the US gov't. You can read a speech given by the CIA in 1996 (see link below).

Also, according to Bob Woodward's book, Bush at War, in 2000, when G. W. Bush took office, China was as big of a concern as Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein.

Taiwan is also a great source a potential conflict since the US have mentionned in the past that they would defend Taiwan in case China would like to take over.

Are Chinese going to directly attack the US anytime soon?
Extremely unlikely.

I wouldn't bet against a major conflict in the next 100 years, especially over natural ressources. However, I would think of it as another cold war more than an attack.

Generally, a powerful country never attack another powerful country unless it's led by a truly mad man or gov't. That would be too costly (destruction, human life, etc.) for both party.

Is this to do with Nostradamus? He predicted that China would invade the west, didn't he?

I wouldn't have thought so, unless his predictions are anything to go by.

Your question isn't very clear - invade where in the future exactly?

Albannach, I never said I believed in such things, I have only read these things. Like I said "Unless his predictions are anything to go by", and as far as I'm concerned, they're not now, are they.

yes and definitely yes.

1. our civilization is ahead thanks to US technical and economic dominance but China is catching up very fast.

2. almost the whole history (except a short stage last century) China was our enemy.

3. china is in fact our enemy right now. Take any military problem of last 2 decades and virtually anytime the China and Russia are against US. (Yugoslavia conflict, invasion into Iraqi, Iran's nuclear program, Taiwan, etc. etc.)

4. china doesn't believe in the same rules. They don't like copyright, freedom of speech, their whole society goes against the individualism.

5. when they reach the technical level of US there will be no way to stop them. And no reason why they would stop themselves. Why will they expand? For the same reason why US expand now. Because they may. Because it's positive EV long term.
Actual reasons (national security, economic interests, etc. etc.) may vary but the great power always expands.

China has one-fifth of of the world's population - US having that and Bush doesn't need the allies any more.

So will china attack US homeland in this century?
Don't suppose so (because of nuclear weapons).

Will china attack (annex) small Asian countries in this century?
Definitely. I suppose 2100 we have the United States of Asia behind the borders of India and Russia.

Will china build military bases around the world?
definitely

No, this country is too big too invade in a traditional sense. It is possible that our armed forces will in the pacific, but it's not likely that the US or China will ever 'occupy' the other.

No, I think that the US will maintain amicable terms with China in the future; the Chinese government relies too much on the United States for its economy.

No, we're in a global economy. We represent a very large and profitable market for their goods. Invading us would make absolutely no sense.

Not physically. The choice of weapon now is money. Why bomb it when you can buy it?

p.s. Darcy, Nostradamus is nothing but an earlier incarnation of Mullah Omar.
