But when I wash my hair I sometimes get so many strands and i mean many strands of hair. Every time I am washing my hair with my hands to rinse it more and more strands of hair come out every single time until the condictioner is out. Is this normal?

You can expect to lose between 100 - 200 strands of hair each day. If your hair is coming out by the handfuls, however, something is definitely wrong. This may not be anything to worry about if you can identify the cause, such as taking medications (talk with a health care provider if you think this is a concern), a recent illness, alteration in hormonal balance (as in childbirth or use of birth control pills), or an emotional crisis that has passed.

Because you have very long hair, it probably seems like more than it is. My hair was almost four feet long, and even if I lost only 20 strands, it looked like a huge handful. It is normal to lose 50 - 100 hairs a day. Now, because you have long hair, do you usually keep it in a bun or ponytail, or maybe in a braid? If you do, then the hairs don't fall out during the course of the day, and all seem to fall out at once, when you wash it. Do you wash it daily, or only a few of times a week? If it's a few times a week (which is healthier, by the way), more may come out at one time when you wash it.

Also, hair has cycles. It grows, goes dormant, then sheds. Everyone has different cycles, from a couple of years to six or seven. I noticed that about every seven years, I went through a period where I shed a LOT of hair for about 3 months. So much that it took me 30 minutes to wash and condition my hair, because the falling out hair got so tangled in with the rest of it. I had to comb the conditioner through in order to tame the rats' nest. People with shorter hair experience this too, they just don't notice it as much as those with long hair.

The average amount of hair that comes out each day is about 15 strands of hair. That is a tiny fraction of all of the hair on your head. You could be allergic to a chemical compound in your shampoo or hair conditioner. Try changing your hair products, all of them and see what happens. Give it a month and if nothing has changed then go to your doctor.

I lose some hair in the shower also. It's normal. Some lose more/less hair than others. It depends on your hair type. Since I've been using Sunsilk Hyrda TLC (for "thirsty" hair prone to dryness and split ends) my hair has become so much shinier, more healthy, and i dont lose as much hair anymore. I would reccomend using Sunsilk shampoo/conditioner for your hair type (they have multiple different shampoos/conditioners for multiple hair types)
