its hard to say since you didnt say what type of turtle or where you live, more than likely the turtle is not ready to hibernate this early in the season. I have a desert tort, and have for almost 10 yrs, and live in Southern California. She wont be ready for sleep until the temp is below 70f for a week straight (usually from halloween til easter). When ever she has "gone exploring" she has ended up in a nice shady place somewhat secluded. Check for it in the early morning, just after daybreak since thats when they like to eat. Also try putting a few piles of her favorite food, and a dish of water about the yard, that may lure her out as well. Best of luck to you and your turtle!

A turtle would need water to survive, so keep a close eye on any pounds, or place where water gathers, like a planter box.

A tortoise doesn't need as much water, but might instead crave shade, or to taste a certain plant in the yard. It may simply feel overexposed in a pen, and wants a place to hide.

Check for digging, and under large plants that would provide a "cave" for the tortoise. And if you find that your tortoise has buried itself somewhere, leave it alone. They do that, for protection and hibernation. Don't worry, it will be fine, and you could do more harm by disturbing a buried tortoise than by leaving it.

Why were you keeping a turtle outside in a pen?

My only suggestion, start at one end of the yard, walk a straight line, turn, walk another line, until you've done the entire yard.

Look under bushes, and under logs or wood, and depending on what kind of turtle it is, look for holes in the ground because she may have burrowed. Also check if theres any way she couldve got under your deck or house. I hope you find her. you didnt say how she got out, dug out or not, if she did you may want to think about burying chicken wire at least six inches deep along the pen so shes cant dig out again. Good luck.

Well, look in the places that involve water, because turtles cant live without water. And look in the plants that are growing food, because maybe some of the plants have the food that your turtle likes on them. You can also look in the places that you think your turtle likes. Also, you can check the places that you think the turtle has camouflaged in. No worries, I have a turtle that wont eat!

Well depending on how cold it gets at night, I doubt she will be alive. But depending on what kind it is look where they would go in the wild. Look in anywhere that would provide camoflauge, or if its a water turtle look in and streams, ponds, or puddles. also look anywhere that insects would gather since the turtle most likely would eat them for food.

My friend put her turtle along with her koi fishes in a pond. A few days later, turtle is gone. She brought a few turtles and again, they all fled.

Believe me, turtles will try all possible ways to get out at all cost (they would rather die to get out; or they just don't know they will die while getting out).

Very likely that your turtle is gone. Sorry about that. If you want to try again, remember to put a barrier so they can't escape. (it's their nature)

She may be in someone else's yard by now, unless it's fenced. Maybe you should put up some signs.

Yeah I had a turtle who escaped once. I still haven't figured out
how he picked the lock.
