respect is like giving respect to that person..
respect is also like giving them the time to make their own choice because it is an act of respecting them..
and treating others the way we want to be treated..

Good question. I see respect as acknowledging a person's authority, and genuinely accepting the person without any negative feelings like hate or resentment.
