I have a black and white photo that has a flower on it. I want everything in the photo to remain b&w, but I want to add red color to the flower. Please be as specific as possible. I am new to this program so I need all the help I can get! Thanks!

It's somewhat similar in the ways.

you need to change the file mode to color. >image>mode>RGB from the top menu.

Then select the flower using selection tools . . . there are a bunch of ways you can add color at this point, but the one described in the accompanying tutorial will do:

Create a new layer, preserving the flower selection (you may want to save it), and fill with red. Set the new layer mode to "multiply"-- this will have the effect of imposing the red hue on the underlying b&w image, inside the selection area.

See the linked tutorial for full details.

Photoshop skills you need to have:

1) creating a selection
2) creating a new layer
3) navigating top menu
