I have sony vaio rx 650 with P4, which is 4 years old. Now, I want to upgrade with Amd dual core 4800, which is so fast. If I want to do this, what componets should I move from desktop? I think I just need to replace intel pentium 4 chip with dual core one, is it correct, or I also need to upgrade memory, motherboard, etc??

Everything that is not "add-on" have to be replaced, CPU, mobo, RAM, and that probably is it, the rest can stay.

The sockets for AMD chips and Intel chips are not compatible. There are also different sockets for older and newer P4 and AMD processors. So, since your PC is 4 years old, the motherboard probably has the older socket 478, which means it cannot handle the newest intel processors. Even if it is the newer socket 775, your motherboard chipset is probably too old to handle any new processors.
Bottom line is you will need to upgrade your motherboard, so it would be advisable to look for a new PC.

You need a motherboard that's compatible with the proc. Besides that's a Pentium motherboard, you can't stick an amd chip in it anyway.

amd and intel chips are incompatible, which leads to a neccesary motherboard change, in which case you ma need a memory change... i suggesst u buy a new computer, and salvage then sell the drives, cables, case, etc. on ebay.

You should remove the motherboard, the intel processor, the pcv valve, the engine and the rotors. Good luck.

You have to get a new motherboard, processorr and memory. You can't just switch chips.
