Try asking at a NC marina. Somebody going canoeing? Kayaking or simply looking for suitable spots to hide the body parts?

maps at www.topozone.com will have all geographic features labled, but the viewing area is pretty small...so you'll have to pan a lot to see everything. This map starts at the mouth of the Pamlico River: http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=35.28049&lon=-76.30616&s=1000&size=l&u=4&datum=nad27&layer=DRG

Contact the tourism board of that state, and they'll send you some in the mail-you could consult a good atlas too from your local library.

If you can find someone who is a member of the American Automobile Association they have maps of every state.
