I am wondering if Hollywood has been tainted, before I get some input; I have a story (thru the grapevine)so I don't know how exact or reliable? Back originally in late 1999 Superman script was originally written by Kevin Smith (Clerks) From what I heard one of the best scripts ever written, with Superman Phoenix rising from the ashes, with a new look and from talk he was to be played by Nick Cage (Valley Girl)After review of the script from the production company Smith was offended by the Producers with their decision to write in a large mechanical spider; completely out of context. Kevin withdrew his script and Superman was left later to be made(Cough Crap) But a year later Wild Wild West was released in theaters,Hence they received there spider...after questioning why the spider was used in the film...their response was "Everyone likes giantspiders!"

was not the producers was the director at the time Tim Burton. He also told him to lose the outfit and not have him fly, watch An evening with Kevin Smith, he tells the whole story and it is very funny. Clerks is a brilliant film and one of the most percentage profiable films of all time as it only cost $21,000 to make and got a national distrubtion.
Wild west was a stand alone project the could do anything because will smith was hudge at the time, if they had put a giant sider in super man the hardcore fans and critics would have trashed the film to such an extent that it would have flopped, its all about market.
Some of my favorite films of all time are indie films clerks being one of them but my favorite film is "Fear and Loathing in las Vegas" a hudge hollywood film packed with BIG BIG names. You need both otherwise the indie films will be pulled into the studios and ruined and you won't get action flicks whihc we all like to watch once in a while.

for the most part independent films are better than Hollywood blockbusters... independent films are simply that: independent. the creators of an independent film don't make movies to make a lot of money but because they love making movies... and they want to make them the way the envisioned. independent movies havent been tainted by hollywood producers and directors who have been trained to know and create exactly what the majority of movie goers want and will pay money to see (both in theatres and out)... this is not to say that all high payed directors and producers arent passionate about making movies but independent film makers usually have a certain important message they want to get across and they use film to do this. personally i find i remember and enjoy independent movies more because of their uniqueness and the relationship the film makers create with their audience.

Absolutely. There is actually some thought, originality, and artistry in them. Most Hollywood movies are insulting to any one with intelligence. Hollywood rarely takes chances wanting only to produce blockbuster type of films that appeal to the broadest audience, which usually equates to mediocrity. Stop paying to see this uninspired stuff and maybe we will get better films from Hollywood.

Yes! Independent films are much more real..and the story lines are more daring and "in your face" whereas Hollywood movies try to appeal to the masses by special effects and big budgets.

Indies are great with me. You can find the story you are talking about in the DVD A night with Kevin Smith.

Yes, they are much more personal, interesting, innoavative and original. Hollywood just keeps doing the same old stuff over and over again. Altho the odd time they can get it right
