Hong Kong was a British colony for 99 years and only reverted to China in 1999. It retains a democratic government although this is now under pressure from the Chinese leadership.

Hong Kong is neither communist, nor a country. It was a British Crown Colony for many years, and went back to China a few years ago. It is NOT communist - it is VERY capitalistic.

It is a city in China but unlike mainland China... it is a democracy as China promise democracy rule with a seperate set of rules used in Honk Kong like there is no death penalty in Hong Kong...and they have a seperate legal and government system which is independent of China in local issues
