Ha, ha, ha, do so at your own risk. But I don't believe you are that rude. Makes for a funny question with lots of answers though.

Dont ask your mother in law how much she weighs unless your talking about how much she weighs the thought of you never marrying her daughter.

If you want to keep her as a mother in law, I wouldn't do it. Why do you care how much she weighs?

Why would you want to know that? Once you knew the number, it would haunt you every time you saw it!

I guess it would be OK if she were a wrestler and she was working to get down to a certain weight class, but barring that you really are better off not knowing.

Hahaha, why would you want to know? A woman tends to have her mother's body when she gets older, so if you are scared by your mother in law's weight, I hope your wife is into exercise. I don't mean to be rude, I think that's just how it goes.

Yes, but it's bloody funny.

My mother in law was being attacked in the street the other day. My wife screams:

"Quick, mum's being attacked by a dozen men outside. Aren't you going to help?" To which I replied:

"No, a dozen should be enough."

She stepped onto an "I speak your weight machine" last week, and all it said was:

"For God's sake, get off!"

It depends on what you need the information for. If for personal inquiry then it is bad.
