My husband does that and I think it's gross. I let him know every time but it doesn't seem to sink in. My husband is also allergic to the fats in milk...that's what makes him FART in public.
WHY? I think it's a GUY THING. When they were growing up they had burping contest and had different dares (making gross noises which including burping and farting) and they were too old to learn that what they were doing was wrong and not socially acceptable.

holding in your farts and burps can really mess with your intestinal track as my sister had hers operated on with a 10% chance of survival due to that.
