RAM - Random get entry to memory the version between your difficult force and your RAM is RAM is rapid and detrimental whilst the HDD is incredibly sluggish and everlasting. RAM is a memory for each and all of the information you're presently using, the interest you're playing, the rfile you're using , the working equipment. RAM is amazingly rapid and has no moving factors. the drawback is that as quickly using fact the skill is switched off the information disappears. The HDD shops each and all of the information on your pc. once you desire to get entry to a minimum of a few thing, (a interest, rfile etc) the HDD plenty the information into the RAM so the processor can see and use it quickly and efficently. The HDD doesnt count on skill although and in case you have a powercut or unplug the pc the information is secure. HDD can fail although, precision moving factors moving at extreme speeds constantly run the prospect of failure.

There are 1024 MB in 1 GB

1 GB chips are about $200.

A 512 MB chip is about $80. You may be able to add another 512 MB chip depending on your laptop.

512 is fine for the OS. A lot of cheap PCs come with 256 megs. xp will run on it, but w/ 512, apps run faster. Vista will require 1G (512x2), but Microsoft keeps pushing the final release back.
